Search Engine Shakeout: Bing Grabs Market Share as Yahoo Waffles
Yahoo Inc., the California based internet company, has registered a drop in its US search share which is very much likely to affect the benefits of its deal with Microsoft early next year.
In November, while Microsoft gained a 10.3 percent share in the US search engine market, Yahoo search share fell to 17.5 percent. The numbers stood at 8 percent and 20.1 percent respectively in the month of May according to comScore data.
Yahoo, the company best known for its email and search engine services, has blamed the recent decline in the US search engine market on the fallout of its toolbar deals with Hewlett Packard and Acer.
Several expert analysts believe that the current trend in the decline of market share is poising to be a long term one and they have warned that Yahoo market share could slip as low as 10 percent in a few years, with Microsoft’s Bing likely to be the big winner
Recently, Microsoft and Yahoo had agreed on a deal to share search engine technology which will involve Yahoo web searches to be powered by Microsoft Bing.

It’s so sad that Yahoo just sorta gave up on their search engine like that. They’re news content is getting real spammy with those in content adverts and OMG, have you seen the fundamentals right wing takeover of the commenting on Yahoo Buzz? It got so bad that they stopped all commenting for a while. made some adjustments and brought it back. Now it’s all extreme right wing all day. Going by the comments in Yahoo Buzz, you’d think that 99% of the people are well, you get it . . .

A major shakeout is taking place among the Internet’s search engines. The biggest surprise, perhaps, is that the recently launched Bing search site from Microsoft (MSFT) is at the center of it. Bing, which went live in May, is eating into Yahoo’s (YHOO) struggling search business. At least that is what comScore, a Reston, Va.-based company that tracks Web traffic is reporting.

That is too bad, I really like Yahoo all in all. I have to admit I use Google mostly because their page is simple and I don’t need the portal part of Yahoo. That is why I never liked MSN, the portal was a drag on the page and a distraction i don’t need to search with. Which is why Bing is a good idea. I have Bing as the start page on the media center computer. But, we seldom search on that computer. But, just as Altavista was once it, and now Google is it, Bing can take market share from Google. It has the same speed and simplicity that made Google a success.

More power drain for each account you and add and to make matters worse only periodic checks for new email. Ill admit for multimedia its better although I’m amazed you cant edit play lists on the fly with the iPhone whereas you can with the BB. And for stupid apps to waste.
